Though she’s “Godney” to some, when it comes to her two preteen boys, pop princess Britney Spears is just Mom – and that’s how she likes it.

“My kids come first, always,” Spears tells PEOPLE while opening up about her brand-new fragrance, VIP Private Show. “There is nothing more rewarding than being a mom and watching my sons grow into young men.”

Adds the star of Jayden James, 10, and Sean Preston, 11, “I am so lucky that I get to experience all of life’s adventures with them.”

Spears, 35, shares the boys with ex-husband Kevin Federline, from whom she split in 2007.

Federline and Spears have amicably co-parented for years, but the singer tells PEOPLE that “the balance between work and my personal life can be a challenge” as a single mom.

“I always do my best to plan my schedule around my family whenever possible,” she says.

Yes, she can sing, y’all.

When Britney Spears made headlines during an Israeli interview defending her live vocals and never getting any credit, many scoffed at her declaration of only using “a little playback.” It’s true: the Undisputed Princess of Pop has relied heavily on a backing track for the past two decades while busting a move on stage.

But one thing’s for sure: when she does actually sing live, her soulful chops make a strong case for why she was given a record deal in the first place — and prove that she’s far more than just a dancer.

During the early days of her debut especially, back when she cited Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as influences, Britney belted with her natural lower register, complete with those now signature baby-voiced Britney-isms (“oh, bay-beh, bay-beh…“). And when performing some of her most earnest ballads live, including “Everytime” and “Shadow,” she demonstrates a compelling vulnerability.

Sure, Britney may not be a vocal powerhouse, but she can absolutely hold her own. She’s also got one of the most distinctly recognizable voices in pop music — a feat most major pop stars have yet to accomplish for themselves.

Britney Spears played with our hearts, but she won’t be getting lost in the game — or in this case, performing at the big game: the Super Bowl.

After rumors began to surface online that Spears would be heading back to the Super Bowl as its headliner in 2018, fans couldn’t help but get excited. Now, we finally have confirmation about whether or not there’s any truth to the speculation. During a panel at Venues Now Conference in Beverly Hills on Wednesday (July 12), Pepsi’s head of sports marketing, Justin Toman, shut down any possibility of Spears being in the 2018 show, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

According to EWwhile Toman didn’t say who would be performing at the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show (last year it was Lady Gaga), he did say, “I can tell you it’s not Britney.”

It’s a sad day for Spears fans, who not-so-secretly wanted a repeat of her 2001 Super Bowl XXXV performance. You all know which one we’re talking about! Spears took the stage with Aerosmith and *NSYNC for the epic performance. It was SO ‘90s!

Hopefully we’ll know who will be headlining the big show soon seeing as Toman said an announcement will be made “in due time.” Even though Spears isn’t in the running as of now, we’re not opposed to an *NSYNC reunion at the Super Bowl. What do you think?
