LAS VEGAS – The Britney Spears Campus of the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation is set to open Monday morning in Las Vegas.
The $1-million building, near Sunset Rd. and Pecos Rd., was paid for by donations raised from Spears’ “Piece of Me” show at the Planet Hollywood resort.
Founded in 1993, the non-profit Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation serves more than 400 pediatric patients, survivors, and their families each year in Southern Nevada. More services will be added this year.
The new 16,000 square foot facility combines more than 45 different services, which were previously located at two separate locations.
Spears has said in the past this is one of the proudest moments of her career.
“I could tell right from the outset that she was doing all the right things for all the right reasons, and it wasn’t about publicity,” said Jeff Gordon of the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. “She was who she was behind the scenes and that was refreshing.”
“She probably will never know the impact she’s had on the Las Vegas community because of what she’s done for this community,” Gordon added.
The foundation’s stated mission is to work with the medical community to provide social, emotional, educational, financial, and psychological support services and programs to families of all children diagnosed with a life-threatening or critical illness.
The new facility opens Monday, but will host a grand opening celebration, with Spears in attendance, in October.
